About Us
We think differently about intellectual property. We start from the business’s objectives and create innovative solutions to achieve them using intellectual property rights.
We specialize in providing intellectual property law, intellectual property litigation, patent agent and trademark agent services.
We help businesses determine patentability and obtain patents, clear and register trademarks, identify potential conflicts between new products and services and third party intellectual property rights, and, as needed, enforce their own intellectual property rights against infringers or defend intellectual property infringement claims made against them by competitors.

Why Choose Heer Law™?
We’ll give you three reasons:
1. You can trust our work.
When you retain Heer Law, you are retaining a team of four intellectual property lawyers, two registered patent agents, two registered trademark agents and one lawyer certified by the Law Society of Ontario as an intellectual property law specialist. This certification requires a minimum of seven years of practice, mastery of substantive law, practice and procedures in intellectual property law, concentration of practice in intellectual property law, and compliance with professional development requirements and professional standards requirements.
Christopher Heer has been recognized as one of Canada's top patent professionals in the 2024 IAM Patent 1000 rankings and as a Patent Star in the 2024 edition of IP STARS from Managing IP. Georgina Danzig has been recognized in the gold tier of anti-counterfeiting in the 2024 edition of the World Trademark Review 1000 and as a Trade mark Star in the 2024 IP STARS rankings.
Our lawyers have been also featured as authorities on television, radio, in print and in person by CNN, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), the National Post, Bloomberg Law, the Government of Canada, the Canadian Intellectual Property Office, the Law Society of Ontario, the Ontario Bar Association, Artscape, LexisNexis, Osgoode Professional Development, Law Times, The Lawyer's Daily, CKTB Radio, The Waterloo Region Record, Federated Press, IncentiveWorks, and The Commons Institute.
2. Our direct client experience makes the difference.
Most intellectual property firms in Canada are primarily engaged in practicing foreign associate work. That is, the work of their lawyers, patent agents and trademark agents is to follow the instructions of lawyers, patent agents and trademark agents in another country to help foreign clients obtain Canadian rights corresponding to an application filed abroad. This results in a professional that is technically proficient in Canadian practice and procedure but relatively inexperienced in advising businesses on intellectual property matters directly.
At Heer Law, the majority of our work and our experience is in directly advising businesses in Canada and abroad. We create the originating patent application or trademark application that ends up being filed around the world. Our clients trust us with their most important intellectual property matters and we strive to maximize their return on their investment in us.
We represent and have represented over 2400 clients directly or through associate firms, including the University of Toronto, Samsung Electronics, Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Ovintiv, Sanjel Energy Services, and Structube.
3. We understand and respect budgets.
Like many of you, we’re a small business. We understand the importance of cost predictability and where possible we determine costs up front. This approach provides our clients with significant peace of mind.
We also work with government programs that help you fund IP services. Through IPIC, we work in collaboration with the National Research Council’s Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP), which assists small and medium business owners (SMEs) in gaining a comprehensive understanding of intellectual property (IP) and its potential to support their business objectives. We are also a service provider for IP Ontario and for Elevate IP delivered by Communitech which each help you with the costs of acquiring intellectual property.
